Sleep Study

Sleep plays a vital role in our physical, mental and emotional health.

We want you to be as comfortable as possible when you have a sleep study at our Sleep Center. Our state-of-the-art facility includes four private, comfortable rooms that are specifically equipped to monitor your sleep patterns throughout the night.

We offer one handicap-accessible sleep room, as well as a sleep room with an extra bed for parents or caretakers who may need to accompany a loved one during the sleep study. We also offer two sleep rooms that can be used to conduct daytime sleep studies for patients who work during the night.

Home Sleep Study

With your convenience in mind, we also offer home sleep testing to patients who meet specific criteria. The center’s medical director reviews requests for home testing. Because some insurance companies do not cover home sleep testing, you should check with your insurance provider to find out if home testing is covered.

What to Expect

Sleep studies are easy and painless. Here is what you can expect:

Before Your Sleep Study

When you arrive at the Sleep Center, you will be shown to a comfortable private room with a bed, television, telephone and bathroom where you will sleep. The room is similar to a small hotel room.

After you are settled, one of our specially trained sleep technologists will talk to you about your sleep study, show you some of the equipment that will be used and answer any questions that you may have.

During Your Sleep Study

Your technologists will apply a series of small electrodes to your head and face and respiratory motion detectors to your abdomen and chest. These devices are not painful and will allow you to move freely during sleep. The devices are used to monitor your body’s functions while you sleep, including:

  • Brain waves
  • Eye movement
  • Muscle tone
  • Leg motion
  • Heart rhythm
  • Airflow
  • Breathing effort
  • Oxygen levels

After Your Sleep Study

After your sleep study, your technologist will remove the electrodes and motion detectors from your body and will forward all information gathered during your study to one of our board-certified sleep specialists for analysis.

Based on the results of your sleep study, your sleep specialist will recommend a treatment plan that may include a referral to a pulmonologist, dentist, neurologist, otolaryngologist (ENT specialist) or dietitian for additional treatment.
