Joint Replacement Recovery

Our team of joint replacement experts will help prepare you to get the best outcome possible after your surgery.

At Vermont Orthopaedic Clinic, our team of specialists will guide you through every step of the post-operative (after surgery) process. Our trained physical therapists and board certified surgeons will create a personalized plan for your recovery — so you can get back to your daily activities as quickly as possible.

What to Expect after Joint Replacement Surgery

After joint replacement surgery, you will need post-operative rehabilitation to make sure you heal properly and can fully use your new joint. Most patients need physical therapy.

It’s important to follow your rehabilitation plan and do any exercises regularly in order to have the most successful results for your joint replacement surgery.

Rehabilitation Facilities

Some patients may need to go to a rehabilitation facility after surgery. Patients usually can return home after about two weeks and continue their physical therapy as an outpatient.

Outpatient Therapy

You can do your outpatient physical therapy at any facility you choose, including Rutland Regional. If you live out of the area, you may choose a rehabilitation facility closer to home.

Most people who get a joint replacement need to do outpatient physical therapy for about two to four months. How long you’ll need to do it for depends on your age and health.

Vermont Orthopaedic Clinic’s joint replacement team will follow up with you and your physical therapist no matter where you choose to do your rehab.
