Nursing Professional Development

At Rutland Regional we believe in supporting our staff as they take their careers to the next level. We offer our nurses an assortment of professional development opportunities, including support for national certification, higher education, and preceptor training.

Clinical Advancement Program (CAP)

To provide clinical nurses with the opportunity for career advancement while remaining in a role that provides direct patient care, Rutland Regional offers a five-tiered clinical ladder. All registered nurses with a minimum of two years of clinical practice experience are eligible to apply to CAP. Each CAP participant is supported through their achievement with one on one mentorship to develop and implement an evidence based practice change or quality improvement project. Each tier of the ladder offers professional development opportunities, organization-wide recognition, and a financial incentive.

Specialty Certification

Rutland Regional promotes nursing specialty certification for all our eligible nurses! Throughout the year, preparation courses are offered to our nurses at no cost for a variety of certifications such as the Medical Surgical Nurse and Certified Emergency Nurse. Through a partnership with the ANCC Success Pays Program, Rutland Regional covers the cost of certification testing fees upfront for all ANCC specialty certifications. For any certifications that are not through the ANCC, we provide vouchers or reimbursement to cover the cost of the exam.

Continuing Education

As an Approved Provider for Nursing Continuing Education programs through the Northeast Multistate Division, Rutland Regional hosts monthly educational offerings that award our nurses with Contact Hours at no cost. Both internal and external subject matter experts provide education through our Nursing Councils, lunch and learn events, and professional book clubs. Rutland Regional also offers unlimited CE opportunities through our Training & Education Department.
